Engineered protein fiber, built on nature's strongest architecture.
EvoSilk is developing high-performance protein-based fibers for applications where weight, cost, and strength all matter.
The problem
Existing high-strength fibers force tradeoffs in weight, cost, and scalability. Increasing strength typically increases weight or cost, and materials capable of meeting performance requirements are often difficult to manufacture at scale. Incremental improvements to existing synthetic fibers have not resolved these constraints simultaneously.
Our approach
EvoSilk is developing engineered protein-based fibers, informed by the structure of naturally occurring high-strength materials. The objective is a fiber that can be manufactured at scale, at a lower cost basis than existing high-performance alternatives, while simultaneously improving strength-to-weight performance.
